I guess people don't use them because they are simply unaware of them. A good application for local channels would be if, for example, you didn't want the data sent/received to and from channel to be relayed by any other server other than your own, or if you were trying to organize a local IRC opera...

Religious wars are stupid and are for people that have too much time on their hands. I was merely pointing out that IMHO I think that YaBB(SE) has a lot more features than phpBB and seems to be more mature (phpBB 1.x was complete crap and 2.0 came out not too long ago). The only reason why it...

Thanks for your input, everyone. I thought that playing real-time sensitive games could be a problem via IRC... however it could still work over a LAN where lags aren't that great. With regards to organizing and controlling everything, one of the things I wanted to avoid (and I think is possible) is...

Local channel support (try 2)
OK, I have tried asking this before, but apparently I upset the moderators. I don't mean to SPAM, but since my question was not answered and I *am* actually using a supported, UNMODIFIED source tree , I figured it couldn't hurt to repost my question since the old topic got locked. Anyway, her...

Using IRC as a communications framework for other apps

My thoughts on this are that IRC's flexibility and simplicity makes it ideal to piggyback on. Just like BitTorrent uses HTTP, one could use the ...

You need a separate services program. http://www.anope.org for example.

Local channel support
Hi everyone! Does UnrealIRCD3.2 have "local" channel support? By that I mean channels whose names are prefixed with ampersands instead of hashmarks (e.g. &channel, not #channel) that exist only on the server that they were created on? In other words, if I have two linked servers, A and...
