Finally! Thank you Ron2K, that's exactly what I was looking for.

1. No one is "god" when it comes to IRC.

This was a figure of speech, nothing more. I own the entire server(physical machine and everything on it), I manage every aspect of this server, including the services.

2. All the SVS commands must be sent through a services server.
OK, so how would ...

Where in the documentation does it show this?
Just do a

Code: Select all

/helpop ?svscmds
That's what I'm referring to when I say documentation.

OK, now I'm even more confused.

If I'm god of the services we run, why in the world wouldn't I be able to use them? Are they commands that are used internally by services? If so, then why does all of the documentation refer to them being used with / as if being issued by a user from a command line ...

Unable to execute /Umodes & SVScmds

OK, needless to say I'm a little confused.

For some strange reason I am unable to do or use /umodes as a command despite the fact that I am netadmin on my server.

I am having this same problem with svscmds, none of them seem to respond despite the fact that I have services running.

Can someone ...

I would also suggest using google.com and you'll find many conf examples and how to setup unreal from scratch.

The doc's are your best bet however, that way you know exactly what everything does.

That brings up another subject I have been wondering about.

Doesn't services autoconnect on launch?

Holy crap! How stupid can I be??

That's exactly what it was. I had myself convinced I didn't need that because I was placing it within the link section. I dunno why!

Thanks alot Stealth!

Connection Refused - Running Ircservices and Unreal

I've been messing with this problem for two days now and I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong here.

Here is what's happening.

My unreal ircd is up and running, working perfectly and I've compiled Ircservices to be used with this ircd.

When I run ./ircservices from the shell I get the ...

I'd like to know which of the two primary services packages you would recommend on a FreeBSD box.

Anope or IRCServices?

In FreeBSD IRCServices is part of the ports collection so I'm more inclined to use it, but if there is an overwhelming reason why Anope may be superior, I would consider ...

SSL - What is Used Most?

I'm new to IRCD's and I'm putting together my first Unreal ircd now as I type.

One of the biggest questions I have concerning the config file and running an IRCD is the issue or running SSL or not running SSL.

It seems to me that not all clients will support SSL and although I like the idea of ...

That did it!

Thanks DeadNotBuried! It's weird that I didn't run that command a second time after looking at the contents of the folder. I expected it to be spelt with a small c instead a capital and that's how I originally issued the command. When it failed I turned to using the ./configure

BTW, I thought it was also worth mentioning that when I do the ./configure I do not get asked the series of questions that is shown by all the documentation. I'm not sure what's going wrong there.

Any Ideas?

Unable to ./Configure & Make Unreal 3.2 on FreeBSD 4.10

I have been trying to compile Unreal 3.2 on FreeBSD 4.10 for a few days now and I'm not having any success.

It appears to configure ok but doesn't ask any interactive questions and when I do a make I get the following output:
