My suggestion would install *temporary* other ircd (i'd recommend choosing bahamut 1.8.3) and see if he can reproduce that.

Why get it from the ports? Ports are constantly updated and maintained by the team.. All software coders expect their soft to be included in ports. dammit. This thing costs a lot of money. It isn't worth to spend it if the purpose of this toy is just a botnet. Also a great charge can (and probably will) be for such thing.

In xchat it is very easy to choose an option not to answer to ctcp requests, so there's quite an easy workaround :P

firstly, try to choose another irc client ( I'm sur efor 98% you're using mirc). Try x-chat. If you still have those ping timeouts, post here :P

no, this is os-independednt and hardware independent. I own two LANs and on both users use local irc servers. They also ger ping timeout'ed if they idle (don't speak). Tried on linux debian, freebsd 4.x, netbsd 2.0.2 and on all os'es the result IS the same :( some software problem here perhaps.

increase the recvq to 32 000
increase the sendq to 20 000 000


should solve the problem. If still not, then try to u-line the server (don't know if it will help though. btw: dangerous)

Actually I was looking at the source and trying to write, but I find it very bad and evil because sometimes it is difficult to understand or find the code similar to your needs..
