Re: CertFP vs fail-if-no-clientcert vs sasl/authprompt login auth

Sorry for only replying in part below: :) basically if I want to turn authprompt for sasl users and or add the improved security and flexibility of sasl, the certFP users can't login without manually input their password. This is a bit of a bummer. If an end-user uses a client certificate and hence ...

Re: fail-if-no-clientcert vs sasl/authprompt login auth

I see you are someone who is really in favor of client certificates (and thus certificate fingerprints). That is great and certificate fingerprints are indeed good, but I think you are misunderstanding WHY they are good. The real benefit of a certificate fingerprint (certfp) is that it can be used a...

Re: fail-if-no-clientcert vs sasl/authprompt login auth

You are entitled to your own opinion but IMHO saying fail-if-no-clientcert "is a much better security option" than doing authentication is really a strange statement to make. Let's see: SASL/authprompt: The user authenticates against their services account. fail-if-no-clientcert: No authentication. ...

Re: [m_rinsec] restrict insecure non-tls users

Haven't used it myself, but this module sounds quite useful if you want to move your network to 100% SSL/TLS. This is what I would do: Make sure you have SSL/TLS correctly configured on the server, like using "real" SSL/TLS certificates that are valid for your server name(s). Set up a Strict Transpo...

If anything, it would be in services. Not sure if they have it. You may want to ask on the anope forums (or whichever services you use).

Re: Installing on Ubuntu 18.04 needs libtre.so.5, libpcre2-8.so.0 and libcares.so.2

That's odd, I use Ubuntu 18.04 on several irc servers, some miss those packages you mention, but they work fine. Also, nothing changed between 4.0.17 and 4.2.0 with regards to the compile system & these libraries, as far as I remember. So not sure what happened. The proposed 'fix' should not be nece...

Re: Need Help and Advice

The choice is up to you, really. The windows version has the same features as the *NIX version. The configuration file(s) will be the same on both OS's too, so no difference there. Things in favor of Linux: * People who use the Windows version usually start there and later move on to Linux once thei...

Re: Disable private messages !

Since I see this question from time to time, I have added it to the FAQ: How to prevent private messages?

Just a slight correction: the module is loaded by default (since 4.0.10).

UnrealIRCd 4.2.0 released

Hi everyone, There have been so many changes in this and the last few 4.0.x versions, it justifies calling this new release UnrealIRCd 4.2.0 . Marking the beginning of the 4.2 series, this release introduces features such as "soft klines" and "soft actions". A significant number of optional modules ...
