Maybe some sort of firewall? Let the users outside of the LAN connect to your external IP address.

Then the configuration of the Java PJIRC chat is overriding the /quit <text>. Check your settings!

Where did you put the file? Should be in %SYSTEMROOT%\system32, usually C:\WINNT\system32 (if that doesn't work, try adding it to %SYSTEMROOT%).

I guess they're using some sort of java chat or something. Only when your users type '/quit msg' there will be a message shown, otherwise just "(Quit: )" or in your case the nickname in it.

I don't see why this would be necessary. Anyone can take 'javauser' as ident in for example mIRC and then I would also be marked as a Java webchat user.

It's probably due to a DNS failure. Maybe you should look for another one, like for example OpenDNS
