I've released my AntiRandom module to the public now. Got a few results from 2 sources: on one it killed 5 out of 7 random looking bots and 0 innocent users, on another it killed 1 "bad user" and 0 innocent [no bots at that time]). So the initial results don't look too bad :). [correct.. n...

I'm not 100% sure what you are trying to accomplish since your allow blocks seem to change all the time, but... But! Here's a guess: - normal clients allowed: 5 maxperip - 192.168.1.33: 20 maxperip - 127.0.0.1: 50 maxperip - anywhere, with a password: "unlimited" maxperip allow { ip *@*; h...

What message do you get when you connect? (on your server)

You see no MOTD at all?
but do you also get 'MOTD file missing' somewhere in the output during connecting? (right after /lusers I think)

Could even double check that by doing something like '/debug @debug' on mIRC.

It seems I'm not really getting any feedback from the 2 I sent the module to.. ah well, they might be busy and I tend to be inpatient with these things (hate to waste a day when I might have a good working solution for quite a problem). Anyway: If you have this bot problem and would like to test my ...

Oh, yeah that was a bit unclear.
What I ment was that irc clients often have an option to hide the /motd on connect. (and with the 'but..' I ment.. 'but I assume you are not that stupid' ;p)

If I type '/who' I just get results and no help (I presume it's the same as 'WHO *').. so, if you type '/who' and you suddenly get a help page.. then that's a problem with your IRC client or script(s).

On a sidenote, /sajoin nick #0,0 got 'broken' (well, whole multichannel support) somewhere in the 3.2 RC's (or last beta's).. It will however be reintroduced in next version (3.2.3) :).

If you looked at the date you would see it's from Oct 2003 ;).
Basically these were the first rules that went into spamfilter.conf, and they are still there.

Small note: the rules got changed recently in CVS to slightly better ones, probably better to use those instead.

The contents of ircd.motd should be displayed on connect, unless: - you forgot to rehash - you have short motd (ircd.smotd), short motds are displayed on connect while ircd.motd is displayed upon /MOTD. If you don't have a short motd, then ircd.motd is displayed in both cases. - you have a tld { } b...

I've started on a module to ""detect"" these "random nicks", note however that by design this will lead to false positives (and false negatives).. I've unfortunately no idea yet how much (although initial results look good), so.. we'll see... :). edit: I've finished the...

So why does it still exist? :)
Because, perhaps contrary to popular belief, I don't always let my personal opinion prevail over the opinion of users.. ;)

Right.
Additionally, spamfilter (target 'u') seems more suited for this purpose.. since then you can (for example) gzline them directly.
