IRCServices Support Channel

Post by w00t »

[following copied from http://www.servicescommunity.za.net/viewtopic.php?t=54]
Ok, given the wonderful ( :? ) success of this site, I decided that it might be a good idea to establish an IRC channel to aid IRCServices. Being a modest person, I wondered which network to use, then picked my own :p

The server address is:
irc.netronet.com [or:]
boo.netronet.com 6667
collective.netronet.com 6667 / 7000 SSL

The channel is: #ircservices

Knock yourselves out.

I would like to think so.

I've used:
-Auspice
-Anope
-Magick
-Epona (tried to)
-IRCServices [also looked into some module coding for this, thx to Brain/Craig]

I've also been working on my own services project, so i'd say I'm fairly qualified :)

I'd like to know which of the two primary services packages you would recommend on a FreeBSD box.

Anope or IRCServices?

In FreeBSD IRCServices is part of the ports collection so I'm more inclined to use it, but if there is an overwhelming reason why Anope may be superior, I would consider compiling it instead.

Which do you prefer and why?

It's really a matter of personal preference, I suppose. With a few extra modules installed (see the servicescommunity modules section for these :p) IRCServices is a great package, Anope however is also good.

If you want a botserv, use anope as ircservices doesn't have one. If, however, you want plain, simple and fairly advanced services with a great mailing list for bugs, changes, etc then ircservices is probably the way to go.

My advice would probably be to play with both, and then decide (but yay ircservices ;p)

im on 2 networks, one has ircservices one has anope, the versions are fairly old so w00t helping with the services isnt really a strong point and i cant do no c/c++ to help with projects, althou all in all, i prefer the ircservices more becuz anope has alotmore to learn and memerise, and seems more stabler (the great thing is, when i make mirc addons, which commacate with services, there is never a problem.) :D

(%) ChanServ changes topic to 'IRCServices support channel! | IRCServices homepage: http://www.ircservices.esper.net | Windows Builds & forums: http://www.servicescommunity.za.net | Died for lack of interest, RIP. (w00t)'

That certianly was quick. Wouldn't you say?

If I had got some expression of interest, it would have been ok. Either I massivly overestimated the IRCServices userbase, or there just aren't that many who need help.

For those of you who still need help, I will still idle in that channel when I am online. Feel free to email me/look on the servicescommunity board otherwise.

[and if anyone feels like giving it another go, i'm up for it.]

You really really really need to update. The latest version (as far as i can remember without going to the site) is 5.0.45

On the other hand, as I said, I'll continue to idle in there in the off chance that anyone does need help.
