services with registering username

Post by arbiter »

I was looking for a services (for unreal) to allow users , register username instead of registering nick (something like ircu) , as i saw by now , anope and other ircservices just provide nickname registering , and other features depend on nickname , i am looking for a services that provide access to chanserv/operserv even when we are not using our accessed nickname (but we identified for it or we logged in for that username before) , is there such a services for unreal ?

Not quite sure what your aiming at here tbh . Are you saying for example : User1 logs in and registers User1 and gets the correct oper rights etc for that name . Then later on they log on as User20 and you want to give them the same rights ? . If you and your ops want to operate under other nicks why not use nickservs link function and link the names they want to use ? .

let me state it clear. with current services you have to use registered nickname to have access to nickserv/chanserv/operserv (with your main registered nickname or with your allied nickname s, linked nicknames) , but I mean having access to services only by identifying one time on a session and having access to the services till end of session even when you changed your nickname to an unregistered nickname or other nicknames.
another kind is registering username instead of nickname , something like undernet , you register a username (not a nickname) , after identifying that username, you'll have access to your channels.
is there any services like that ( and compatible with unreal)?

hehehe, this is actualy something that auspice services do.. one that i frankly will miss. but as stated in a different thread, auspice is no longer under development and has some glaring bugs that are just too big now for me to ignore

srvx does exactly that.. As does UWorld (I think thats it's name)

Unfortunatly both are for IRCu (Undernet IRCd)

Actually, srvx also supports bahamut (1.8 only I think), which can possibly mean that if enough people request it (or maybe just someone else codes it), it could be possible to get the srvx coders to add support for unreal :) . Of course, you'd have to talk to them about that :) .

I´d like to have it the other way round... are there any services for Unreal that don´t have nickserv? I tried Anope, but there everything is tied on the nick - if you want to register a channel you have to register your nick. So, is there a service that has channel registration without nick registration?

I very much doubt it. Channel registration requires a registered nick in every services package that I've dealt with (IRCServices, Anope, Auspices, Magick, QuickServ - to name but a few).

Well, what I´m searching for is something like srvx, to be more precise. You can see this running on Gamesurge. There you have to register, too. But it´s not the nick that is registered, it´s more or less an account. You can change your nick to whatever, it doesn´t matter - ´cause it´s the accontname that is used for registration purposes, not your nickname. I don´t want nicks to be restricted to the user who registered it, but I do want some sort of registration. Srvx isn´t compatible to Unreal, so this isn´t an option. Anope I´ve tested myself, there everything is nick-based. Is it exactly the same with all the others you named?

I know exactly what you mean, and I know a while ago myself and aquanight discussed doing an AuthServ sort of system for WinSE. Whether it's still feasible, no idea. I'll ask him when he gets back.

The others? No. I havent seen any others that do this :/

It´s good to here that I´m not the only one who would prefer something like AuthServ. Sadly it won´t help me if WinSE some day uses this system, because my server is running on Linux...
Well, seems I will have to stick to Anope.

[coughsoneedtochangethename;p]

It's no longer going to be just for windows! Hopefully it (should) run under mono, as it's a .NET application.

Sorry if I was mistaken, the link in your sig seemed to state quite clearly "Windows" as OS. Then it may really be the solution to my problem :)
