Why is that good? Just because a channel operator becomes away for some time, should the channel mode stop him/her from receiving messages sent to +#channel, %#channel and @#channel, and thus make his/her logging capability useless? Additionally, for example, XChat marks away users as gray in the channel members list (maybe there are similar features in other clients as well), so I think it shouldn't be a problem if chanops are away.

Not to mention the fun that can occur if the channel only has 1 op. I set /away, now there are no ops. And if the channel wasn't registered, or services are down...

That bit wouldn't be so bad if the module remembered ops that set away, and reop them when they unset it.

But I agree that it's rather useless. There are better ways to show that you're away: 1) you can deop yourself (and you might not want to do this for unregistered channels / services gone down). 2) you can change your nick to something else. (A 3rd method would be to announce it every so often - on a /timer perhaps - but I personally have a tendency to want to strangle people that do that...)

Oh and by the way, why the HECK is a module-related thread in the services forum? :P

Lol.

I agree with aquanight here, it COULD be useful, but then why not just /whois them and look at their idle time/away status.

Well what I meant is, what if something happens while you're gone? When I'm away, I still have my flood-kick script going and such. So if no other opers are around, my script will get rid of flooders. However, if I'm deopped whenever I set /away, that user can flood for hours until I return.

A valid point you raise codemastr.

However, most major channels that I know of have at least two active ops at a time.
