I did get if from GIT, but commenting out numeric gives me "[07/06/2013 17:17:58] servtree_update(): ircd requires numeric, but none was specified in the configuration file"

I updated to Unreal 3.4 and my problems have been fixed. Thanks, nenolod.

re-installing a fresh copy of unreal is likely what "fixed it", not upgrading top 3.4 ... which is pre-alpha and is inadvisable to run on a production network as it's not even in beta yet. Hundreds of servers run 3.2.x with Atheme just fine.
