Cygnus: how to disallow channel registrations?

Post by SR-71 »

Hello,

First post here; thank you for your patience should my question seem "obvious". I have read all related FAQs and cannot find an answer to my question.

I am running a small IRC server on a Debian/GNU box using Unreal 3.2
Using cygnus (which, I know has no further support) bc that is what was used when the server was first setup.

I need a method to change the register command that will allow only me, as NetAdmin, to register channels. Reason: small server, running off my DSL and the server is very topic specific. Trolls are registering channels like crazy, sucking bandwidth.

I have the config set to CSOp verify for registrations. This isn't working.

btw: I am currently working on a 3.2.1 build and thinking of using Anope, but I cannot find a tool that will allow me to convert the Cygnus .db's into Anope. [addendum: just read on Anope's forums that currently Unreal 3.2 is *not* supported, so scratch that idea.]

Any help appreciated.

Regards,

First, I don't know where you saw that on Anope's website... we use Anope and Unreal3.2.1

As for conversion utilities, I believe ircservices (http://www.ircservices.za.net) have a tool that will convert from cygnus to ircservices, that may help your chances somewhat.

Can't help you on your other issue tho.

Good luck!

Im running UnrealIRCd 3.2.1 and Anope as well, all working fine (Unreal 3.2x is supported by Anope).

Also, maybe a database wipe would not matter that much to you?

Thanks for the replies.

Good to know that anope *is* compatible.

As for the troll channels.. what I have been doing is weeding out the database from time to time. Recently I disabled the channel listing command and that has [seemed] to have stopped the issue for now.

Kind regards,

Just to correct some information, Anope 1.7.6 and later will be 100% compatible with the Unreal3.2 series, featuring things such as Mode Lock for +f, and extended bans (in future version of the 1.7 series).

Hope this clears a few things up :)
