Making server not appear in map

Post by droolin »

I have just linked a leaf server that I want to use for testing various things. It will not be on the round robbin. The server name isnt on the dns. Im going to set the allow blocks so that only specific ip's can join it.
This server will also only be listed in one hub's c/n lines. So, the test server will only be able to link one place/
My question is this. I don't want this server even appearing in the map. It's there for one purpose only. Foir testing purposes. If I screw it up, its leafed. It wont affect the network at all.
I've read through the Unreal documentation, the only way I see that I think it can be done is to make it a uline server. Is that correct? And if that is true, do I have to add it to all server uline area???
Any sugestions are appriceated. Its no great problem if it does appear, cause I will have it locked down. But, I'd rather have it not visible at all.

You cannot hide a server from the map or links. There is no reason to.
  1. If the server doesn't have a DNS entry, the name wont resolve and users won't be able to connect.
  2. If you are making it so only certain IP's can connect, then anyone not authorized to connect will not be able to. Perhaps you should also make it passworded.
Those are just 2 of the many reasons there is no reason to hide a server from map or links. Just live with it. If anyone asks, tell them it is not a public server and no one can connect to it.

Yea, your right. I forgot about password protecting it. And the server name says testserver.xxxxxxxxx.net
If that doesnt tell you its not for public joining, I dont know what does.
But, then again. I wouldn't be supprized.
Ok, thank you. Your input was very much appriceated.
