Wowsers!!
I downloaded the win32 (non-SSL) version onto a newly built winXP Pro computer and after changing a few things on the config file UnrealIRCd worked! I'm so excited! Yay!
I was able to log on using another computer on my network running Mirc.
What do i do now? What to do next?
I don't know where to go to find more info on customizing my IRC (aside from searching through hundreds of help files and etc.). Is there anyone here who would be interested in helping me set things up and teaching me some things? You can email me or reply back and i'd love to communicate with other members on a more one-on-one level. I'm just really interested in brain-picking and absorbing all there is to know about running this program and customizing it. Right now though, i'm just a newbie and i need help learning the basics.
I know i'm going to get tons of replys that say look through the faq, try search, etc., and i'm doing that. But i'd like to meet and talk with someone as well. I hope i'm not asking for too much. Maybe i am.
Anyway, i got the program running. That's the first step.
How do i set the default channels that are started when the program runs? I had saw this somewhere in some help file but was unable to relocate it when i needed.
Take care everyone.
Wowsers!

I know you didn't want links, but you are getting one anyway:

Thanks, Stealth.
I didn't say i did not want links.. if i came out that way, i apologize. I appreciate ANY help. I'd definitely like more than links though
Thanks for that link because i knew i had spotted that somewhere but couldn't find it the last time i looked for it! That docs page is so chaulked up full of information that to a newbie like me it's like looking at saskrit or something! Definitely what i was looking for.
Is there any advice any of you can give me regarding security and keeping my IRC and my computer safe while running/experimenting with this new toy?

Run opsb/bopm as well. Run ircdefender. If you do get in trouble with someone (as in, getting ddos'd) - pop emails off to the ISP of those concerned. Often works wonders.

opsb/bopm i can't recall off the top of my head, ircdefender can be found on http://www.ircdefender.org. Google for the first ones.
