newbie help... sorry!

Post by benny »

hi there,
the techie on a network i help run has gone walkabout and i need an oline added to the config. i have shell access, but have no experience with freebsd (os the provider runs). i'm a windows user so i have almost no experience witht he command line interface, short of setting up a router for ccna.
i don't really want to walk in blind and start messing things up, so i thought i would get some help first. i have had experience with editing unrealircd.conf, so that isn't a problem, i just don't know how to get the config file open for editing.
1) login to shell
2) ls to view directories (?)
3) cd to unreal dir (?)
4) do something to edit config (?)
5) save config (?)
6) rehash ircd

any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Get a program called WinSCP. Enter the login info for the shell there. Go to the unreal directory. Open the unrealircd.conf by clicking it and pressing f4 for edit. Look for oper and then add your oper block. Save the file, rehash the server and you're done.
