increasing maxclients?

Post by comforteagle »

How many clients is my brandnew, killer, server able to handle?

I have 2G ram/100mb card & bandwidth is really high.

Anyone? 10000?

To be honest, im pretty sure nobody can give you a definitive answer since the only true way to find out is to try for yourself. The maximum number of clients your IRCd can accept depends on a number of things including the load created by that number of users connect.
bandwidth is really high
And at the risk of being picky some people may consider a 2Mbps connection as really high. So without an actual figure on that your aproximation doesnt help assess the answer to your question.

Even if you do have a "brand new killer server", the number of clients really depends on:

1. Your OS
2. Your connection
3. How many channels there are
4. How active these "clients" are
and a few other things.

There are many posts on the load Unreal can take, please use the search option.

In my personal opinion, Unreal should have no more than 1000 users connected to a single server, and if you have more users than 1000*servers, you should have the funding to get more servers (because you're already affording a "brandnew killer server")

Also, you don't want all your users on one server, because that gives a single point of failure if someone were to attack (it'd be easy to take you offline)
