I apologize ahead of time if this has been answered elsewhere, but is there a way for UNrealIRCd to authenticate against the linux users on the box (i.e. /etc/passwd or pam_unix)?
If it doesn't do you know of any irc server that does?
Authenticating Against Linux Users
Re: Authenticating Against Linux Users
Agarax, this might be possible but it would be a lot of work to make happen with UnrealIRCd. I don't know any other IRCd that has this natively.
You could set up linux to authenticated users via the LDAP protocol.
If you choose to do this, you can use m_ldap_authentication provided in Anope 2.x however, I assume you want this native to the IRCd (in such that a user cannot even login without a valid linux user)
In which case, you'll be after this https://vulnscan.org/product/LDAPAuth. However, this module is €150 (£119.50 roughly) but would implement the functionality you require.
This is about the extend of my knowledge on LDAP.
