Securing *nix

Post by Matridom »

I'm currently running unreal on a debian box (sarge) and i'm looking to allow the other server admin shell access to the IRCD to assist with remote administration.

I'm looking for tips/tricks on how to secure the box so that the remote shell user does not have access to anything else. I've learned the basics of the *nix OS, I use pretty much a bash shell and local webmin access to manage the server.
Never argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

There are several multi-thousand page books written on the topic. I doubt anyone will be able to do the issue justice on these forums. Try googling for "securing linux" and the like.

If you *really* want a secure system, I'd suggest you take a look at SELinux (produced by the NSA). It has some really nice MAC features.
