Forum downtime

Post by Syzop »

The forum is now back online, if you encounter any problems (that did not exist before ;p), let me know.

I don't know how long it was down.. but I noticed it right before I went on vacation (but had no time to fix, so I only mailed our sponsor contact [which did not help]), so it must have been down for at least a week...

Some domain/hostname stuff got changed, so if you used 'direct urls' they won't work anymore.. The good thing is, that we now use a proper general host (forums.unrealircd.com). I converted most of the urls in the posts db... although some of them are still left (10 or so).

You're allowed a vacation? (jk :)).

Hope you had a good time.

A shame the forum search function doesn't search in bbcode tags (or at least doesn't seem to).

That's what you use the SQL client tool for, aquanight ;)

I guess this is the time I hide then? :P

As well as Syzop being on vacation, the day this all kicked off, was the day I was away on vacation too. It began on the 11th July, when we identified an issue with the server. This was fixed on 12th July by a re-image, and an upgrade to RHEL.

During the backup/restore process, the Apache configuration was altered, and the admin performing the restore, didn't think to re-enable the user-based web access.

Syzop was able to use the tools we provide to sort the issue whilst I was away.

Again, apologies for the problems this caused, not only to users, but to Syzop :P. In future, if something happens, i'm going to ensure that someone here is informed of the goings on.

If anyone else spots something that's up, please let me know, so I can look into sorting it.
