Hello people..just thought I'd poke my head in and say Hi.

For people that don't know, I run the server that hosts http://www.unrealircd.com

I also used to host one of the irc servers (for Stskeeps) but unfortunately it was DoS'd hard one day and it had to go offline :(

Nice forums (I think)...very dark though...but that's ok :)

I'm always around to host / mirror stuff if anyone wants it doing (no more irc servers at the moment, sorry)

Just drop me a mail or phone me sometime...details are in my sig below.

As of today it seems I'm no longer hosting the site.

Codemastr didn't tell me...the DNS just changed last night and this morning I find a whole new website is up.

I preferred the old one

Well it's not that we "moved" it, it's that we "changed" it. We wanted to be able to have the old site continue and have the new site worked on, to do that we needed two places to host. The goal is to make it so that we can mirror it onto multiple hosts.

But regardless, your server has been having tons of MySQL downtime. We get complaints almost every week. Don't get me wrong, we appreciate what you did for us, but the MySQL on your system just doesn't see to be stable. Fifteen minutes before I switched the DNS over to the new server, someone had reported to me that again the MySQL was down...

Well even thou I already tried! (I'm trying again) I do some simple web hosting on my business DSL.... And I wouldn't mind giving Unreal as many accounts as they'd need... As of now I'm hosting about 60 accounts for web shit... As of now my main server ( realm.webworkadmin.com )has been online 55 days, 10 hours, 40 minutes. I've had only a few down times due to a few network peeks and DDoS.... Haven't had any major problems in 4 months... which all have been solved :)

http://www.webworkadmin.com
http://www.myvortex.net
http://www.perfectanarchy.com <--- not really a site up atm...
http://www.lilphil.com <--- shit site... :)
http://www.spellboundimports.com <--- some (drugs) stuff... don't really know... not illegal thou! :)
and about 20 or so subdomains :)

The point! mySQL never goes down! :) anywho... thanks for waiting your time reading! :)

As far as I was aware this had only ever happend 3 times, and not once recently. If people were complaining I wish someone would have told me. I never heard a thing from you.

Ah well.

A couple of times I did try and contact you, however, it seemed DNS was down too because the emails bounced...

Well I kept silent coz I of course appreciate people who are helping / supporting Unreal Infrastucture :). [The following will probably sound unfriendly... You have been warned :P.]

But... The site had A LOT of problems, sql errors were _NOT uncommon_ at all... And when it happend it was often for several days (with sometimes 30m a day uptime again). The week before we switched it was almost down the whole time except for the last few days...
This was very frustrating, especially for me... I'm the type that wants to resolve such issues immediately... coz.. what use is coding on unreal if nobody can download it!! I won't be surprised if we missed hundreds of users by this, especially the month before we switched. [Yes if everything was in my hands we would have switched much much sooner...]

Ok ok *calm*... just don't want you to get a wrong view of the stability of the site.
