I'm happy with phpBB as well. It seems to do 99% of the stuff we want, and it's free. Sounds like a good deal to me.

I like PunBB, but ipb vs phpbb, for this forum I think phpbb is fine. I dont see the need for IPB as you dont need a ton of features on a forum for support and discussion about an ircd.

Yeah, so far there has only been 2 things where I said, "I wish PHPBB could do this" And those were, delete unused logins, and require one of the anti-bot "what's in this image" registration things. I was able to quickly find mods to add both features.

The image verification mod is actually included in the phpBB download package these days :P .

YaBB and YaBBSE have a lot more features than phpBB. Not sure about security though. ;)

Both are GPLed.

Religious wars are stupid and are for people that have too much time on their hands. I was merely pointing out that IMHO I think that YaBB(SE) has a lot more features than phpBB and seems to be more mature (phpBB 1.x was complete crap and 2.0 came out not too long ago). The only reason why it because so popular, was because they got themselves a sweet team of designers and made it look like Mac OS X so everyone bought into it.

I also agree that for the purposes of this forum, phpBB is more than enough. However, for other forums (e.g. BitTorrent) phpBB is not the wisest choice...

Ok, I'm getting close to locking this now... We have no intentions of changing. Maybe there are forums that offer 10000x the features, but we don't need them! The more features you have, the more code you have. The more code you have, the slower the program runs. If we are never going to use those features, why should we make it slower in order to have those features? That's a waste. PhpBB does everything we need and more.
