You will more then likly need to set up port forwarding on your cable modem/router so that the ports your IRCd listens on are forwarded from that modem/router to your computer.

Hello,

I have 2 questions.

Firstly, when you used your own pc as a server, is there no lag or problems ?
Secondly, why not buying a shell i know one ( My best Friend). You may get one shell very cheap and a very good hosting services with great uptimes :). An IRCd shell, you may install everything you wish as follows:
- 175 MO
- 1 IRCD + 3 Pids [Pids is not a problem as we are not strict on that ]
- Unlimited Traffic
- Dedicated Ip (port 6667)
- Web access ( host website)
- 3 e-mail

- Prix:4 € / month
10 € / 3 month
38 € / year
You may convert the money in your own currency.

NOTE:- This is not an spam. am just trying to help :)

You may contact me :)

then you may need a dyndns for you ip to hide you ip cause otherwise you will need to give users of your server you own ip.

In case you wasnt already aware, DNS does NOT hide IP addresses, it simply gives them an easier to remember synonym or alias which is then used to resolve the IP address to connect to.

EG:
1) Client looks up irc.domain.tld
2) DNS server replies to client with IP address
3) Client then connects to IP address.
