IRCop Quiz

Post by Stealth »

I am trying to make a quiz to give to people when they want to become an oper on my network. Unfortunatly, I need to have questions on this quiz (wonder who came up with that idea).

So, if you have a question that you think would be good on such a quiz, feel free to post a reply. :D

I would put questions about what to do when a lamer starts mass adverting, flooding or otherwise abusing the server.

Though just giving oper to everyone who can pass a quiz is kinda dumb if you ask me :) .

Its not just anyone who can pass a quiz, there are other requirements too. I just want a simple quiz for the people who have been chosen to be possible opers so they dont get an oline and not know what to do with it.

more like a trust issue... cause any tom, dick, or even Harry, can find the answers to your quiz. so meh! and plus just becasue they know anything about irc, doesn't mean they won't abuse their oper powers!

I think what he is saying is that he will scout about for a potential oper, then make them take the test to see if they are suitable for such a role... not just take any "tom dick or harry" and give them an oline if they pass the test :)

Put something about rerouting servers in there - opers need to know about this, but it's something that's not well known. (Even I don't know too much about this one.)

Rerouting hasn't been profected yet thats why. Someone needs to code a better service that has the ability to connect to a set number of servers if one is down... but meh, what do I know about services and irc?

You may find educating potential opers a good idea . This is what I did . My server has 4 admins all 4 of us know each other as we have met in RT and that is how it will stay with admins . The way we work is when we need more staff we look at the user base and use the following as a guide.

1) How often is the user online
2) When online how they do they interact with other users
3) If a users having a problem do they try and help
4) Have they got a good sense of humour

If they are about a lot and have a laugh with others and help without being asked to then they get flagged as potential op . We then give them mod and see what they do with it . If they perform well we then consider them for ircop .

The easiest way not to get mod or ircop is if they ask for it .

We find this works well for us .

All decision making is group made with all levels of staff involved . This stops rows and staff being left in the dark . Olines are a privelege and our staff realise this . We have an ircop who knew next to nothing about IRC having only used Java . Now she can gzline with the best of them . Take time to train your staff it pays off.

Solutech has the right idea .. but if you must make a quiz .. make it an essay about how to handle situations. Not about IRCd/Services commands, that can be taught.
