There's virtually no functional difference between the two, so what the fuck does it matter? Choose one and stick with it. Any user who does or doesn't like the prefixes will get over it easy enough.

Maybe because it creates support problems like the one you brought up earlier ("And how is Anope supposed to know whether prefixes were enabled or not?").

Having Anope set +ao instead of just +a isn't a "support problem" it's no big deal. It doesn't cause any problems. I don't see that as enough to remove an option that many people want.

I myself am undecided as to the usefulness of the prefixes. I use cgiirc daily (not my choice

) and therefore, get irritated when I cant see who has what.
They could be useful, but...
Ok, this is an undecided post.
My point is, you definatly should be able to customise it. NOT get locked into a choice.
