MAXCONNECTIONS Error

I get this error message:
The OS enforces a limit on max open files
Hard Limit: 550 MAXCONNECTIONS: 1024
Fix MAXCONNECTIONS
Possible error encountered (IRCd seemily not started)
I have set max connections on config.settings to 550.
Whats the problem?
