Hey has anyone been getting a crawler bot connection from this guy at http://www.gogloom.com? we have been getting a bot on our servers from him for a coupla days now. I went to his site and it seems a little......*off* i.e. it berates you for loading pages to *fast* and other points of weirdness, anyway I was just wondering if this guys legit? (like searchirc, or netsplit.de)
Unlike searchIRC, where I modify our information, this guy just seemed to come from nowhere. I may be acting a little *reactionary* but the vibe from his page suggested that I apply a /gline at once..

I have been seeing this bot on the IRCsystems network, but I never thought much of it. I usually leave bots alone unless they are bugging users.

I don't trust the site personally. It's a warez site. You can tell because he tries to protect his website with the fake Internet Privacy Act text that some stupid warez guy made up. If it were my network, I'd gline it. Maybe it will get you 1-2 new users, but they are likely going to be users who just want warez, not chatting.

Personally I haven't seen that bot around (yet) but just wanted to let you know that you will occasionally get serachirc bots, which are harmless, just there to collect stats. ( wasn't sure if you requested them or they just came, wasnt my net i saw them on).

Now I've seen a gogloom bot, not on my net yet

They only appear if you request them pepolez.

Thanks for the info, /gline applied.... After a bit of research I found out that it is indeed all about the warez...

What's his IP/Hostname?

You can recognize them like this:
Gogloom00 was [email protected] * Problems? curious 4t Gogloom d0t com

So banning on nick/realname would do.
Or for the paranoid, you could just gline the whole netblock: [information slightly editted on request {removed exact ip}]

just test irc seach engines and compare searching for irc channels, you'll see some differences, maybe not...

some people could think xdcc is not irc, but, it's obvious that xdcc is only present on irc.

something more than warez hmmm, anyway ppl can only see xdcc (for good or for bad)

I'm lost... For some reason you gave/give the impression here and on irc-junkie that you filter warez and stuff. But now when I go to your site (tnx Stealth for pointing that out ;p), you offer an explicit XDCC search option... LOL? This is just a joke...

Ok, sure, technically you never said you were anti-warez or anything and technically these 2 things (warez filter & xdcc search) can of course coexist, but I just want to say that you just gave a totally wrong impression if you ask me....
Then again, I guess most people just visited the site and found that out -- which also explains their negative opinion.

yeah i filter xdcc and stuff for irc search cause i wanna keep it clean, irc is just irc ...

but i like the "dark side" of gogloom which is another "concept of irc"
