Around two weeks ago, I started having problems with the forum login system - it kept on logging me out again. Now, auto-login sort of fixes it - I say "sort of" because the board still logs me out; autologin logs me back in but I loose the "unread posts" notification, which sucks.

I've tried deleting all cookies, resetting all IE settings to their defaults and even moving this site into IE's "trusted sites" zone. Didn't work.

Besides getting a different browser, any suggestions? Or are the board's login settings to blame?

I think this is true of any forum-like system, if you just sit idle on one page for X amount of time the server deletes your session, and then you finally click a link or something, and it creates a new one... I've had that happen on other sites. Could be possible that someone's twiddling with the session timeout limits?

That's interesting... I've been on this forum pretty much since the start and I only had to login 3 times, in all cases becauses I deleted all cookies or logged out myself.
So, like now, I've been logged in since.. at least whole 2005 :p.

I'm using FireFox btw.

Well technically, you do log out when you close the forum page because after a while the server deletes your session, it's just when you come back your cookie tells the forum it's you and just logs you in automatically... otherwise you'd be always present in the "users online" list .

I suppose that I should also mention that this problem is unique to this forum; it happens on none of the other forums that I visit (including the one that I run).
