I don't believe so... at least where ever I put it for mine it worked.

Services might help

if u already got services, when ur an op in required channel to register

/msg chanserv register #chan-name password note-about-room

Example

/msg chanserv register #room password registered-by-me

They don't have to be, but it is probably a good idea to make sure the official channels are registered. Otherwise, anyone can take them over!
