mIRC w/ wine

[moderator: ok, there was not a good way to split this, but.. the topic started with '<aquanight> I don't even want to think about how stable mIRC is on wine']

app. its pretty good ive heard of ppl using mir con wine with no probs lol learn by mistakes

I use mIRC on WINE when Im on a linux comp. It is fine, it only has trouble with the ^K box (it doesnt show) but that doesnt really matter, so all is well with the world of mIRC on WINE

Could be me then, but I've tried wine a few times in the past 6 years or so, and I've never been too statisfied with it.. I suppose w/windows stuff it would work better (Fonts, etc), but last time I used it - 2 years ago I think - it crashed a few times and some display problems (and I only used it for an hour).

I've used mIRC on Linux and FreeBSD with WINE. Aside from some dialog problems, it works. My question is, why?! With the number of quality IRC clients for *ix why settle for a clunky emulated mIRC? I tried it, and then I went back to XChat.

The only reason people like them is because they exist. If you code say an Xchat script to do the same function it gives people more reason to get away form, as mentioned, a chunky emulator whch is not the most effective way of running something on the system.

Personal opinion. Saves time to not code and use something else

Not forgetting of course that TCL etc are all scripting languages themselves...
