I just installed the 'eggdrop' client. It will connect to a defined set of channels and sit on them. It will also give a defined set of users +o on the channels. So far its working for me. I too dont want to get involved in the complication of services for my application.

Make your own bot . Get a clean client ie mirc and set it to join all channels on connect . Easy

No.
Using XChat is the closest you can come to something stable. If you use mIRC with wine, then you will have numerous problems.

Any linux client will do . Sure one of em will allow you to do it . Got to ask why you want a bot in chan that does nothing tho . Is it just to keep the channel open ? .

The official channels block/feature will accomplish what you want, see the documentation for full details.

it doesnt do what i want, i want the bot to keep the channel open and have the topic set there so when the 1st user joins the topic is there, and the modes dont clear

Use ChanServ mlock and keep topic, and use official channels to keep it in /list
Uh, that seems to do all you want it to!

More to that, to QUOTE from the documentation:
4.34 - Official Channels Block OPTIONAL
Syntax:
Official channels are shown in /list even if no users are in the channel. The topic is optional and is only shown in /list if it has 0 users.
So Official Channels CAN keep topics as well!

1st off if you read earlier i said i dont use services because i cant, and second the official channels shows the topic in /list but when the first user joins the topic is nothing.

Well what you're requesting can't really be done inside the IRCd cleanly. Have you looked into getting eggdrops?
Why can't you run services? Process limits? Get a better shell provider
