I am having problems with oper up and admining the site. I believe this is my misunderstanding.

I would like to know if there are other documents other than http://www.vulnscan.org/UnrealIrcd/unreal32docs.html as well as the accompanying documents including the rant about users whom do not read.

My problem is with the oper.

I have the following oper configured as below:
oper mbr {
class clients;
from { userhost *@*; };
password "mypass";
flags {
netadmin;
};
};

I have commented out
#oper-only-stats "okfGsMRUEelLCXzdD";

Basically followed the directions of HIBBERT's thread on the subject : http://forums.unrealircd.com/viewtopic. ... ht=hibbert

Followed it verbatim.

Result no luck:

Where can I read about the following information

1. Oper commands from an IRC client and potential examples (this is missing in the docs and might make all the differnece in the world)
2. Is an IRC console (chatzilla/babbel/etc) remote or local equivalent to an IRC console support spoke about in the "hibbert" thread?
3. Is there a console client for provided by UNREALICD? On the local machine>
4. using the following commands resulting in errors.

/oper mbr mypass : result No O-lines for your host
/stats mbr O : result No such server
/whois $me : : result No such nick/channel



Poured through the documents and I just havent read a section that clearly defines how to handle the system from oper commands.

System information:
Windows 2003 Server
UIRCD 3.2.3
Clients (Windows/Linuz) Babbel/Chatzilla, MAC OSX (Conversation)

/oper mbr mypass : result No O-lines for your host

Oper login and passwrd is case-sensitive. If correcting the case doesnt work, try /quote oper mbr mypass

/stats mbr O : result No such server

Try /stats O

/whois $me : : result No such nick/channel

Because $me is not evaluated, try //whois $me (with both /'s)

EDIT: About the $me thing... It seems you are not using mIRC, so stop trying to be lazy and just type your nick.

Is this really fair to be so sharp in your comment?

I was referring to the [Hibbert] post as indicated by the support response and I was trying to follow those instructions. Call me lazy and asking me to type in my nick is not helpful support.

As my question was pertaining TO $me. A simple directional question as "if you are using mIRC?" may have cleared things up is more of a professional response.

I apologize if all users are not up to your intellect. But responses like this one are very hurtful to open source initiatives.

Have you tried rehashing/restarting the server? Maybe you added (or changed) your operblock since it was last read.

Thank you, its rather odd behavior. I have rehashed and restarted and I cant seem to get the server to behave.

Since the intstallation wen so smoothly I may just resinstall and start from scratch.

I am trying to access the oper from Chatzilla and Babbel. Could this be my problem?

Are there any other docs than the ones that come with the download?

No, the best documentation is http://www.vulnscan.org/UnrealIrcd/unreal32docs.html, which came with the download.

Reinstalling wont help, but reconfiguring (delete and start over) might fix it. You could try another, more mainstream client, such as mIRC. This might be a good idea, just to find out if it is your client's fault. Is it possible that there are multiple oper blocks for mbr? Double check, perhaps another one is messing it up.

Now thats a good thought. Let me start over with the example conf and I will try mIRC..
