I am wondering what this mode does for the bot. Other than displays the bot.motd to the user that has set +B

It doesn't do any thing for the bot really. It's more for the network admin. If you do a /who +m B it will list all bots on your net provided users configure their bots to set +B. It also helps users who attempt to talk to the bot by typing /whois nick they see it's a bot and not a real person

To add to what SpaceDoG said its basically only a status mode. Carries no extra priviledges.
