is there any setting i am not familiar with on the ircd (unreal 3.2.8.1) that will stop these annoying replacers from being shown or convert them to standard letters..

i am not sure if it matters but my mirc is using fixedsys for its fonts.

Your mIRC is just displaying the characters other users are sending.
