Im stuck on installing the webpanel. When i visit the unrealircd-webpanel/index.php i get redirected to unrealircd-webpanel/settings/install.php where im told to fix a permission issue.
"The admin panel needs to be able to write the config file.
Please run: sudo chown http /usr/share/nginx/html/unrealircd-webpanel -R
And after that, refresh this webpage."
I have tried to fix the permission issue but no luck so far. Ive done the usual like restarting nginx a few times and rebooting as well. Im not sure what im doing wrong. Im also completely new to UnrealIRCd so all help is welcome! :D

"ls -l" output
drwxrwxrwx 24 http root 4096 Nov 29 18:59 unrealircd-webpanel

You're not providing enough information. We don't know the distro you're using, the webserver, etc.

Without that info we can't really provide any guidance about the steps to take to fix the issue.

Sorry about that. Im using Arch and nginx. Do you need to see any configuration files?

Can you try the following instead and see if it fixes anything?

Code: Select all

sudo chown -R http:http /usr/share/nginx/html/unrealircd-webpanel

I tried it but no luck. im not sure why. the webpanel files are indeed in that location.
ls -l output:
drwxrwxrwx 24 http http 4096 Nov 29 18:59 unrealircd-webpanel.

There must be some kind of secondary security system in play, on top of the regular *NIX permissions/ownership. Apparmor, SELinux, or... probably more likely: systemd.

The /usr/share/nginx/html also sounds a bit like an odd location. I don't run arch, but i am used more to seeing /var/www/html and such.

Anyway, I suspect systemd with ProtectSystem= is protecting your /usr, making everything under /usr read-only.

Maybe you can pop on some Arch support channel to get help with that. It's possible to tweak the systemd stuff to lower security, but perhaps they will tell you simply to put stuff elsewhere and change your nginx config, which is probably safer.

Thank you so much Syzop! I moved it to /var/www/html and now it works :D
