install (*nix) went fine but webtv'er cant connect

It is really perplexing me as to why i cant get my webtv buddy to connect to the server.....I am running it with him and his following mostly in mind, and the guy is a hopeless webtv'er (the original not the msntv box) and i've given him full directions and he just cant connect. Is there something i'm missing here?

yes regular windows users can connect just fine
