Previously working 3.2.3 fails to start, Gentoo 2005.1.

Post by Pink »

Hey there, Slight unexpected trouble that for some reason, started after I installed php5.0.5/MySQL/Apache2 on my Gentoo Linux 2005.1 box.

This problem has appeared before in this board, but stated the answer was to upgrade, but as far as I know, 3.2.3 is the current build, and is also the version offered by Portage.

Error that ircd.log shows is:
Cannot open stream socket() terra.pinkfloydyoshi.com[]:Address family not supported by protocol
Everything worked before I got Apache set up with PHP5 and MySQL, and the only thing I can imagine would be the problem was because I changed the system's hostname. After I changed the hostname, I went through the unrealircd.conf file changing anything that was out of date and rehashed the file. Unreal returned the file was rehashed without problems after doing a /rehash.

The install's not mission critical, it's all mainly for experience so if I have to do something similar again, I know what I'm doing, and how to fix what may go wrong. If this has been answered elsewhere, I'll apologise for not looking, but the FAQ or documentation don't seem to show me why this would happen.

Actually the latest version of UnrealIRCD is 3.2.4. Get it HERE.

Maybe you answered yes to ipv6 but disabled it on the system?

In any case, just try a fresh (3.2.4!) compile...

Just did a fresh 3.2.4 compile as instructed. Works fine now which is great. I just found it strange that it broke after installing Apache with PHP and MySQL. I didn't realise 3.2.4 came out since Portage provided me with 3.2.3 last night when I was trying to get it all working again, so Portage is out of date. Oh well, all appears to be working now. Thanks much.
