Post by ChildOTK »

Hi all,

I am playing around with this IRC server, pretty kewl.

I am having two issues at this point.

When I join the server, the server usally gives a welcome message or some sort. Where does one change what it puts there??

At the moment I am getting:

-irc.ncgamers.za.net- *** Looking up your hostname...
-
-irc.ncgamers.za.net- *** Found your hostname (cached)
-

Second issue I am having is with the mailer, I registered a nick name, but never recieved the email so I could verify and all that.

I am running a postfix smtp server, but the sendmail command is still workable.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You can't.

Changing that stuff would break clients, as it is all needed for the client to know what do do when it connects.

Thats the silliest thing i've ever read, of course you can change it.

ChildOTK, edit the ircd.motd file (in your Unreal dir), that contains your "Message Of The Day".

Sorry maybe im not being clear here. I am not talking about the MOTD thats quite obvious as to what should be done to change it. My concern was the information before the MOTD, the "Welcome to xxxxxx network NickName!" and that bunch of info.

I was hoping to change that, but according to the IRCd IRC support channel I cant change that. As also mentioned in this thread.

Thanks for the reply though.

ahhh, the devil is in the details....

technically you could change that stuff as well, however it would involve changing the UnrealIRCD source code and recompiling, and good luck finding ANYONE around this forum thats willing to even discuss such things....
