Simple And Secure

Post by UCC »

I am trying to configure my IRC server. My server will be used for nothing more than simple chat.
I have myself setup as the Op but it seems whoever the first user is to login to the IRC when empty, also becomes an op.
Is there a way to stop this? I cant really stay logged into the IRC server 24/7. I do not really have a need for any other
channels, any other ops, etc I just need a simple 1 room chat I have control over. If people want to create channels, it doesnt
bother me but that is not important. Can anyone help advise me on this?

That is my main issue right now, a secondary issue (if you are feeling extra helpful) you could share with me information on logging the chat so I have the ability to review complaints and punish those who abuse the system. Thanks to all for even reading.

1) You need to get a services package, and register the channel.

2) Logging is not possible, and not supported. The only things we will help with about logging is either be there 24/7 so your client logs, or get a bot to do it for you.

Okay so I tried to install Anope. I used this tutorial..
http://pchowtos.co.uk/index.php?page=tu ... view&id=15

I went through the whole process, did everything it said, started everything up, and it looks good.
But I do not seem to have access to the service. One question I have has to do with the services subdomain used in setup
services.domain.com

My concern is, the domain I am using appears to be a subdomain from the hosting company
ircd7.thehostcompany.com

So if I do services.thehostcompany.com I have a feeling it is not going to work. Comments?

Again thank you for your assistance.

You can name your services and server whatever you please. They are just names displayed to the user, and do not mean you need to own those domains... You only need to own the domains when it comes to setting up DNS for users to connect to. Services should not have a DNS entry at all.

As for access to services, you say you're using Anope, so you first need to add your nick to ServicesRoot in services.conf, then /oper on your IRCd, then register your nick with NickServ.

alternativly, could he have not simply used can_override on his oper block and taken back ops on joining his channel?
