Unicode support for Arabic

Hey all,

I have a user who is requesting unicode support for communicating with his friends in Arabic.

Is this even possible? Are there any disadvantages, aside from unicode nicknames taking up 2 bytes per character (essentially cutting the allowed length of the nick in half)?

Here are the basics about my network:

IRCD: Unreal3.2.7
Services: anope-1.7.21

The closest thing I could find within Unreal Documentation is a setting for character sets in nicknames; however, this is a bit different topic. Any guideance would be appreciated.

As far as I know, Unreal just like any other IRCd supports Unicode within the actual messages, however, whether other users can see it properly depends on whether or not their client is set up properly.

Some clients support Unicode by default, others you have to switch to the UTF-8 character set.

Thanks for the insight. I'll experiment with some different clients and see which would work best.
