Connecting to my server

Post by Sphynx »

I'm trying to connect to my server. Do I need an actual domain and webspace for it? As in, a host for the server as you would need bandwidth and hosting for a website? Right now, I've put it as irc.storm.realm.. I don't know if I need to link it to a domain.

Also, if irc.storm.realm IS valid, then I can't connect. Which part of the unrealircd.conf determines the port? I'm trying through 6667 but I don't know where in the I've specified the port number.

Thanks

Apparently you are missing some key fundamental knowledge with domains.

1. In order to connect using a host/domain it has to be linked to an IP. This is done using DNS or Domain Name Service.
2. You have to own the host/domain you are trying to use.
3. We don't support domain problems.

NOTE: try connecting by IP address.

In addition to what jewles said, "irc.storm.realm" isn't even valid. When was the last time you went to "www.something.realm"? Never. Because there is no such thing as ".realm" it needs to end in .com, .net, .org, .info, etc. You can't just make one up, even if you do buy the domain.
