Post by tomcat »

I just want to ask how do I use swhois through an U:Lined server? I have checked with OperServ and I don't see anything about that, can anyone help me? thanks!

*** Changes the WHOIS message of the Nickname.
*** Must be sent through an U:Lined server.
*** -
*** Syntax: SWHOIS <nick> :<message> (Sets the SWHOIS)
*** SWHOIS <nick> : (Resets the SWHOIS)
*** Example: SWHOIS SomeNick :is a lamer

What are you trying to do? Create an swhois through services? You will need to send it via raw... ie

/msg operserv raw swhois w00t :is teh L33T

or something like that

tomcat, /helpop is the command for the built-in help system of UnrealIRCd. Probably you haven't noticed, but /helpop ?swhois sends you information about command SWHOIS and its syntax.

By the way I wouldn't use the RAW command of OperServ. It's too dangerous, and it's something I wouldn't recommend for everyday use. Its improper use may destabilize the Services server and you can even end with the crash of the server that is directly connected to Services.

If you don't mind using 3rd party modules, I suggest you to try m_chgswhois (available from the official website).

I didnt know such a module existed, else I would have recommended it's use :)

As for raw being unstable, sure it is if you aren't careful.

Well, m_chgswhois (commands /setswhois and /chgswhois) was designed to help when vhost::swhois and oper::swhois would be inconvenient to use. :)

Anope has a module which adds the command SWHOIS to OperServ. The module is available from http://modules.anope.org/modules.php?op=details&id=87.

On a side note, the Anope Team reserve the right to refuse support to anyone who has RAW enabled. It is a discouraged option to have it enabled, and if used inappropriately, could destablise your services and/or network.

Hehe, I guess that means we aren't the only ones who get reports like "I typed /os raw <insert random stuff here> and it crashed!!!!" :)
