to allow only a-z 0-9 nick characters

We want to allow users to use nicks which are only combinations of letters and numbers or only letters.
We don't want them to use | [ ] { } - characters

When q-lining these we get a lot of status messages about q-lined nicks.

Is there any other way to do this?

You can turn off snomask +q (which is the one that sends the Q:Line rejection notices).

Other than that, I'm not sure what you can do.

EDIT: I wonder if the new nick character sets feature (in CVS) would help at all...

How can i turn it off for default /oper command.

Which file should i edit, i couldn't find..

If all your opers are getting snomask +q and you want it off for all of them, then the directive you're looking to change is in the Set Block. I suggest that you read the documentation concerning this.

(Hint: set::snomask-on-oper)
