Binding Stream Socket?

Post by NRR »

The other day me and a friend thought it would be great fun if we were to set up our own IRC server, so we asked around, and unrealircd seemed to be the one of choice. So me being the alittle bit more skillful one, downloaded it and being the "n00b" went start ->> Programs ->> UnrealICRd ->> Launch.... But guess what, it didn't run, I thought it was just me, so than I decided to read the readme, okay, so I had to config it before it could run, that sounds easy enough, so I asked for the help of a respected admin on the server that I idle on, he said sure and we set it up. Now.... it's what i've come to believe as correctly configed, But, my only problem is I get one error " - Error binding stream socket to IP 67.**.83.*** port 6667 - irc.d******.net[]:Can't assign requested address", I thought it was my router, so oh course, I forwarded all my port, nope, nothing, so than maybe if I "DMZ'ed" myself out of the router, nope still nothing. So now I'm really not sure of what's causing the error. I did read all the FAQ's aswell as the Readme and any other help documents I could find with no information on the topic, so excuse me if I overlooked something. But other wise, it would be great if someone could explain this problem and a possible solution.

Thanks alot.
Taylor

P.S. I tried to get the irc channel for alittle help, it claimed that I "CHEATED" on the quiz than banned me. Than my script rejoins me auto after I get kicked than it cames that I'm "Ban evading" Well anyways. I hope you can help.

You can of course only bind to an IP that your Server actually has. So, if you are behind a router, bind to your internal IP and let the router forward the Port.
You could also just use listen *:6667; which would probably be easier :D

Alright, I got that all figured out, that worked great, so now my server actually works but now no body in the outside world. Meaning.... Using my external IP it just times out... any other ideas?

Your Router is not set up correctly.
You have to forward the correct port to the correct IP.

Oh, and most probably, you can not connect to your external IP from inside.

Well I can't find anything wrong, maybe it's just me or my ISP, I've tried everything from reviewing everyline of the config file, to changing ports. If anyone has any ideas, or is willing to help me, can you please contact me @, and I still will go about checking these forums aswell.
