UnrealIRCd 6.2.0 has channel flood protection turned on by default, UTF8 Text Analysis and Spamfilter enhancements, new best practices regarding plaintext port 6667 and TLS certificates, PQC enhancements, etc. All this to make chatting on IRC more secure and with less spam.
It is highly recommended to read the release notes. Or, at least read the first item under "Enhancements" there.
The beta's for 6.2.0 didn't receive as much testing as I would have liked. If you want to hold off for a while because you are cautious or if you depend on 3rd party modules then feel free to wait for version 6.2.1. UPDATE: By now (Sep 22, 2025) most 3rd party modules have been updated to work with UnrealIRCd 6.2.x, including all modules from Valware, k4be and Gottem.
Dot release:
* UnrealIRCd 6.2.0.1 fixes some unnecessary "best practices" advice that could happen with 6.2.0 (e.g. didn't always detect trusted certificate correctly).
* UnrealIRCd 6.2.0.2 fixes scoring in the optional antimixedutf8 module
Download / Upgrade
As always, you can download UnrealIRCd from www.unrealircd.org. If you want to upgrade on *NIX, then use: ./unrealircd upgrade (if you use this latter method, be sure to read next)
PGP key rotation
Note that our PGP key expired in June 2025, so all our files are signed by the new PGP key. The new key was created and announced in Nov 2024 already in this post. UnrealIRCd 6.1.9 and 6.1.10 have the new key in the doc/KEYS file (because they were published on/after Nov 2024). With UnrealIRCd 6.1.9 and 6.1.10 the "./unrealircd upgrade" command will work fine. On older versions of UnrealIRCd, however, you will get a warning.
